Epon Golf Featured Account: St. Andrews Golf Co - September 8th, 2009

This Week we are featuring St. Andrews Golf Co Ltd. located in St. Andrews, Scotland.

The St Andrews Golf Co. Ltd’s roots date back to 1881. We are the oldest golf club manufacturer in the world. The company is home to 3 of Scotland’s most famous club making brands; George Nicoll; Tom Stewart and of course St Andrews Golf Co. itself.
They were the most prolific club makers (cleek makers as they were called then) of their time. Cleek makers were blacksmiths who developed their special skills into producing golf club heads. We have c
ombined these 3 names under 1 roof, we are the last remaining golf club manufacturer in the ‘home of golf’ and the last club maker in the world retaining the traditional skills to hand craft playable sets of hickory golf clubs.
Our expert craftsmen continue to produce clubs to the exact detail that they were originally intended, dating back as far as the 1700’s.
Our premium item is a limited edition reproduction of the set of clubs Tom Stewart made for Bobby Jones when he won his Grand Slam in 1930.
All these clubs are fully playable with sets being owned by the likes of Jack Nicklaus and The Duke of York. These sets retail for £2800.

The personnel at St Andrews Golf Co. are passionate about retaining the traditional skills of club making, a tradition that once had Scotland as the leader in the industry. We are striving to get back to that position and to do that we need to look forward as well as back.
It is this history that enables us to recognise the skills and quality of the Epon products. We believe these products are at the forefront of club making today.
Facilities include:
Simulators: Zelocity ProLaunch, Sports Coach & Swing Dynamics
Training V1 Dual camera training
Mitchell Equipment
We are the PGA technical training centre for Scotland.

AF-Tour Iron now with V-Grooves! - July 14th, 2009

The 2008/2009 Edition AF-Tour is available with V-Grooves for USGA legal use at the highest Tour Level!

The AF-Tour utilizes super precision forging methods creating a pure blade from soft premium S20C steel. Epon sets the hardness rating at a very soft HRB80. The Epon AF-Tour is a small blade with thin topline and sole and minimal offset.

Epon created a special die which creates a slight cavity and changing the volume of steel on the upper and lower part of the blade. This places the CG at the 100% apt/center point on the blade creating a perfectly balanced iron, unlike more traditional irons where the CG is towards the heel. The groove in the back of the blade helps define the seperation between upper and lower weighting and also contributes to the AF-Tour’s overall balance. This balance creates optimal trajectory and a large sweet area. Playbility and feel are the AF-Tour’s strongest suits with a touch of forgiveness added in. Pure control for the professional level player but still forgiving enough for the low to even mid handicapper who wants a challenge. The AF-Tour is finished in a durable Nickel Chrome Plating and has traditional lofts.
